- Population Dynamics of Aphis gossypii Glover on Coriander in Relation to Biotic and Abiotic Factors

Field experiment was conducted on population dynamics of Aphis gossypii Glover on coriander (Gujarat coriander 2) in relation to biotic and abiotic factors during winter season of 2011-12 and 2012-13. Incidence of aphid on coriander started from 3rd week of December (51st SMW) and continued till 1st week of March (10th SMW) with a peak level during 5th week of January (5th SMW). Minimum and mean temperature had highly significant negative association with aphid incidence during first year, whereas nonsignificant negative correlation with the pest activity during second year. The morning vapour pressure had significant negative relationship with A. gossypii during first year and non-significant negative association during second year. Remaining all the tested meteorological parameters showed non-significant relationship with aphid population on coriander crop during both the years. The biotic factors, viz., coccinellids and syrphids as well as their cumulative numbers showed highly significant positive correlation with aphid population during both the years.Keywords

Studies on bio-efficacy of insecticides against castor capsule borer, Conogethes (=Dichocrocis) punctiferalis Guenee on castor were carried out during Kharif, 2011-12. The results on efficacy of insecticides showed that chlorantraniliprole 20 SC @ 0.006 per cent and indoxacarb 14.5 SC @ 0.015 per cent were found superior and recorded 7.92 and 8.12 per cent capsule damage, respectively during spray schedule. At harvest, plots treated with chlorantraniliprole 20 SC (0.006%), indoxacarb 14.5 SC (0.015%) and emamectin benzoate 5 WG (0.002%) had found lower per cent capsules damage. Statistically higher castor seed yield was recorded in chlorantraniliprole @ 0.006% (3185 kg/ha), indoxacarb @ 0.015% (3110 kg/ha) and emamectin benzoate @ 0.002% (2760 kg/ha). However, cost benefit ratio was highest in indoxacarb 14.5 SC (1:16.62) followed by alphamethrin 10 EC (1:15.73) and chlorantraniliprole 20 SC (1:12.02).Keywords

Biology of the sesame leaf webber Antigastra catalaunalis Duponchel was studied in the laboratory on leaves of variety G. TIL-3. The length and width of egg, body of each larval instar, pupae and adults were measured. The incubation period was 2.38± 0.54 days. There were five larval instars and length of larva increased from 1.91–9.53 mm with total larval period of 10.50± 1.43 days. Pupal period lasted for 6 days and adult longevity was 6-7 days. The sex ratio was found to be 1: 1 and males were comparatively smaller than females. The total lifecycle occupied 26.5± 7.78 days.Keywords
